Banana Sickle (Keli Vila) Big

A sickle, bagging hook, or reaping hook, is a single-handed agricultural tool designed with variously curved blades and typically used for harvesting or reaping grain crops or cutting succulent forage chiefly for feeding livestock, either freshly cut or dried as hay.

• Blade Design: The sickle’s curved and often serrated blade is crafted for precise cutting of banana bunch stems without damaging the fruit itself. This design also aids in removing old leaves from the plant.
• Ease of Use: Banana sickles are generally lightweight and easy to handle, allowing for swift and efficient harvesting with reduced effort.
• Durability: Many sickles, like the Bharat Agro tech  Sickle, are made from hardened and tempered high-carbon steel, ensuring strength and durability for prolonged use in agricultural settings.
• Applications: Primarily used for cutting banana trees during harvest, these sickles can also be useful for pruning thick stems and other agricultural clearing tasks.
• Harvesting Process (Traditional): Typically, two people are involved in harvesting bananas with a sickle or machete. One person cuts the bunch from the stalk while the other supports the heavy bunch to prevent damage. The cut is typically made 20-25cm above the first band of bananas or 7.5-10cm from the tip of the fingers of the first hand. After cutting, the bunch is carefully placed on cushioning (like freshly cut leaves) to prevent damage during transport. Latex exuding from the cut surface needs to be prevented from staining the bananas.
